Many of China’s major tourist sites have Western toilets and an attendant who practically lives there to keep them clean. But Chinese tourists would prefer the Chinese style toilets so there are more Chinese Squatting Style toilets and one 1 or 2 western ones.
Most locations will have old Chinese style “squatty potties”, it admittedly takes some getting used to, but on the bright side you don’t touch anything.
Some public restrooms in the big cities do have at least one western style toilet seat, and even toilet paper and soap. All quality hotels have Western style toilets so you can rest assured that once you are back in your own private room you will have a throne to relax on.
We do recommend carrying hand sanitizer and toilet paper when you venture out.
