Dujiangyan Giant Panda Base is located on the northwest, 70km away from Chengdu city, which needs about 1.5hr driving. It presents a wild natural environment for the pandas. There are about 40 Pandas in the base including many famous celebrities like Bao Bao who was born in Washington, DC. We will spend one day volunteering in Dujiangyan Panda Base. During the volunteering, we will make the Panda's cakes, clean the enclosures, and feed them the cakes.

Spend an unforgettable and meaningful day taking part in genuine giant panda conservation volunteer work. You will be picked up from your Chengdu hotel by comfortable private vehicle and driven to the professional panda conservation base.
Upon arrival, complete registration with your original passport, followed by an English briefing and volunteer training. Change into a standard volunteer uniform and start practical keeper tasks, including cleaning panda enclosures, cutting fresh bamboo, preparing panda meals, and learning daily living habits of giant pandas.
Enjoy a delicious lunch at the base restaurant, then attend a panda conservation introduction and watch a documentary about giant panda protection. Walk around the base with your guide and watch giant pandas relaxing, eating bamboo and playing in natural surroundings.
At the end of the activity, get your official volunteer certificate and take group photos. You will be transferred back to your hotel safely, leaving you with precious memories of supporting wild animal conservation in Chengdu.
There are three optional locations: Dujiangyan, Wolong Shenshuping and Ya'an.

Dujiangyan China Giant Panda Garden has been closed for renovation since April 23, 2026. The official reopening date will be announced separately in due course.
Note:
Age range: 6–70 years old.
Kids aged 6–12 (inclusive) are required to join with a paying adult. Same rate for both adults and children.
Advanced reservation at least 5 days prior is mandatory for the volunteer experience.
Here below is the schedule you need work there:
8:40-9:00am
Complete registration procedure, put on the work suit and gloves, wear the volunteer pass card.
9:00-10:00am
Start to clean the cages and enclosure, as well as cracking bamboos, carry out the leftovers, etc.
10:00-11:00am
Walk around other panda enclosures to see the adorable black and white animals.
11:00-11:30am
Watch giant panda keepers feed the pandas with bamboo, carrots, panda cakes and apples at close range.
11:30-13:00pm
Lunch break.
13:00-14:00pm
Watch a panda documentary to learn more about the scientific facts and the life of panda.
14:00-15:00pm
Clean cages and feed pandas again.
15:00-15:30pm
Make panda cakes and be issued the certificate of panda volunteer.
15:30-17:30pm
Drive back to downtown Chengdu.

Tour must be booked one week in advance, once you decide this program, please send us the copies of all participants for booking.
The age limit for Panda Volunteering Program is between 6-70 years old.
The quoted price is for a 9-10 hour tour per day.
Please bring your passports for the volunteer work on that day.
Please follow the instructions of the panda keeper when you do the volunteer work; No touching or teasing the panda.
Avoid Using Strong Smell: For pandas have keen sense of smell, volunteers should avoid using perfume or other odorous articles like mosquito repellent liquid, nail polish, skin care products, makeups, etc. on the volunteer work day.
Dressing Code: During the panda volunteer program, you are required to wear comfortable shoes, like sports shoes, that are suitable for the work. Try to avoid sandals, slippers, high-heels, and so on. Besides, wear trousers, avoid shorts and skirts, etc. (during the program, the panda base will provide working jumpsuits in spring and winter, and T-shirts in summer and autumn for you.)
Healthy Bodies: To well protect giant pandas, volunteers are required to be healthy, and people who are suffering from illness, like a cold, fever, influenza, and other infectious diseases are not suitable to do the panda volunteer programs.
